I recently received complimentary loaves of Dave's Killer Bread from Mom's Meet. All delicious opinions remain my own.
One of my first blog posts I ever wrote was on finding healthy bread in the supermarket. It focused on one of my favorite breadmakers, Dave's Killer Bread. I've been a longtime fan for many reasons. It's bread produced without GMO's, it's high in fiber, there are no fillers or preservatives....and best of all, it tastes amazing! My kids love it, too, so it's a win-win.
Dave’s Killer Bread started out in 2005 and quickly became the favorite organic bread at their local Farmers Market in Portland, Oregon (right in my backyard!). Less than a decade later, they are the #1 best-selling organic bread in the country. All of their breads are organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and packed with killer taste and texture. Dave’s Killer Bread is known for its trademark explosion of seeds, delicious chewiness, and high quality ingredients. But the company strives to be more than just bread makers—they believe in creating lasting change for the bread industry, their communities, and their employees.
I wanted to create a recipe with Dave's Killer Bread that was fast, easy, and that would make a good after-school snack that kids would love (instead of having to reach for processed crackers or chips). My goal was to have something with a good crunch (like chips), but a much healthier choice.
I started with Dave's Killer Bread Blues Thin-Sliced Bread. At only 90 calories a slice, it's a perfect option for a healthy snack like this. Here is what you will need:
Ingredients:
6 slices Dave's Killer Bread (I used thin-sliced Blues Bread, but you can pick your favorite)
2 tbl. melted coconut oil (sub olive oil or avocado oil if you prefer)
1 tsp. garlic
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 tsp basil
1/2 tsp paprika
Grated parmesan cheese
Cut the bread into 1.5 inch wide pieces. Blend the oil well (you will need to melt it if you use coconut oil) with the spices. With a pastry brush, lightly baste each side of your cut bread pieces. Bake for 6 minutes at 375 degrees (do not overcook!). Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Let cool completely. They will crisp up as they cool! Eat plain or dip in your favorite marinara sauce.
