Ahhh, Christmas vacation. Christmas is one of my favorite seasons of the year. And, of course, my kids love the season for obvious reasons. The countdown to Christmas vacation usually starts around, well, the first of December! They love school, but they love vacations, too (even if we aren't going anywhere).
I look forward to Christmas Break, too. I love having my kids around. We have a great time together. But it does present challenges. I've got the regular activities and chores of the house to attend to; those are hard enough to get done. I also have a home based business that, although it does slow down this time of year, demands my time and attention. In their world, though, they aren't used to seeing the day-to-day chores I undertake. While I would love to be able to drop everything and spend every moment with them, it's just not entirely possible.
I try to find the balance. I strive to get a lot done either early in the morning or after they are in bed. They understand that certain pockets of the day are needed for me to get some work done. It's a great learning opportunity for them, too. My daughter understands that my work helps support our family. They understand the need for chores.
We do have true vacations occasionally where we can all truly unplug and just enjoy each other. I cherish those times.
To my friends on social media who gush about having their kids home and plenty of free time to spend with them, be thankful. I'm thankful, too. I'm thankful that at least I can juggle working at home and being with them. I can only imagine how mom's feel who work outside the home. I just wish I didn't have to juggle so much sometimes.
You're a lucky girl Meg. Yes, Christmas vacation is hard but at least you get to spend it with them. I work full-time so to me it's crazy-time begging everyone I know to please watch the kids and take them out!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Trying to find that balance and cherish every moment I have with them for sure. :)
