Peace of Mind With Doctor On Demand

By Meg Hodson

This is a sponsored post with Mums the Word Network and Doctor on Demand. All opinions are my own. #feelbetter #ad

Doesn't it seem like there is any app for everything these days? We can take someone's temperature, make dinner reservations, and so much more. I love the convenience that apps provide me, especially as a busy wife, Mom, and small business owner.

Nothing slows a family down quite like an illness. Believe me, it has been a rough Winter for my household. Some of you might remember my post about our woes over Christmas with sickness. So I was eager to try out the new app and service, Doctor on Demand.

Doctor On Demand is a healthcare service that provides video visits with board certified physicians, psychologists, and lactation consultants via smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers. Patients simply download the Doctor On Demand app on a smartphone or tablet or visit their website on their desktop computer, provide a list of their symptoms, and are instantly connected to a provider licensed in their state for a video visit. I love that this can give you peace of mind without having to load the kids up and go to a doctor, with a potential long wait. Appointments for adults are available, as well as pediatric consultations.

I actually got to try out the service hands on; I coincidentally was battling a severe cold, so although I would not have wanted the cold (!), it made for a great way to experience this app. Let me tell, I overall am insanely impressed! I scheduled my appointment using the scheduler within the app (this was key so I didn't have screaming kids in the background!). I was sent a text message reminder to open the app and start my appointment. Right away in the app, I was prompted to start my visit. I will admit being on video chat with a doctor while my nose is running and feeling crummy wasn't the most pleasant thing (for me), but I eased up a bit a few minutes into the visit.

The doctor was very friendly and professional; he took the time to thoroughly ask about my symptoms. He even directed me to hold my phone to my throat so he could get a better assessment of the severity. I loved this! If you aren't comfortable with doing that, there is the option to snap a photo and upload it during your visit. Although the diagnosis was that I didn't urgently need a prescription at this time, the option was there for the doctor to send a prescription if need be.

This would have been a great service to have when I was travelling over Christmas and found out my insurance would only be accepted at the emergency room (I couldn't find an urgent care clinic or doctor that took the insurance I had). I was severely sick with the flu and a cold and I wanted to rule out pneumonia or bronchitis. It would have given me some comfort if I could have made a video call for a nominal fee to see if the emergency room visit would have been worth the trouble.

The Doctor On Demand app or website is free to use, download, and register on. Video session visits do have a small fee, but are usually less than the average co-pay for doctor visits. Plus, I've got a special promotional code you can use to try out the service; your first session is free
Just use code happy15.

What do you think about such a service? Would you use it?
