Product Review: CleaRinse

By Meg Hodson

I don't know about you, but I have had stuffy noses in my house for a good month now.  It started with me, then moved on to my kids, and it finally made it's way to my husband.  The thing I think I hate most about stuffy noses is how long they seem to hang on sometimes!  So, when I had the opportunity to review a new nasal cleansing system, CleaRinse, I was both intrigued....and happy!

The CleaRinse system is a battery-operated nasal cleansing system.  It has both irrigation and aspiration functions.  I don't know about other parents out there and their experience with over-the-counter medications, but decongestants have never really worked on my children.  Especially with infants, having children blow their noses can prove to be challenging, too.  The creation of this product was intended to make the maintenance of stuffy noses in children easier.

According to Fluent Health, Inc, the creators of the CleaRinse system, salt water irrigation and aspiration is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.  The unit comes with pre-filled saline packs to easily fill the head to use with the product.  While this offer convenience, you do have the option to use bulk saline to fill the unit, as long as it is sterile.

When I first turned on the unit with the tip inserted into my nose, I was a little startled.  So, I recommend turning it on a few times (unfilled with no saline added yet) to get both you and your children used to the sound of the unit.  Before testing it on my children, I wanted to test it first.  Although the heads that come with the system are sized for infants and children's noses, some adults are finding that they can be effective.  I thought they worked great and cleared my congested nose quickly and efficiently.  Please note that the creators are working on adult size heads to be available soon.

The unit charges easily with the included base charger.  It comes with 2 heads and they recommend using one head/person.  But the heads wash up very nicely and are easy to maintain.  They can be used multiple times.  If you do need additional heads, they will be available to order in a few weeks.

Overall, I happily recommend this product.  It is a natural, medication-free way to treat congestion in children.  I especially love how it can truly help infants breathe easier and sleep more comfortably when they are fighting a cold.  I also loved how it even helped my congestion.
